Mary Grant is always on the hunt to sharpen her tools for her technology toolbelt. A seasoned teacher at Ralph McCall School in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada, Mary is leading the professional development path for technology certification for teachers.
Achieving her certification in Remind and next, eyeing her Google Level 1 certification, she seeks initiatives that engage 21st century learners, both students, teachers and parents alike.
Mary conducted a year-long Aisi (Alberta Initiative for School Improvement) project, measuring how Mathletics enhances teaching and improves student learning. In her research, while she anticipated students would be excited about the gamification elements of Mathletics, like credits for avatars, she didn’t anticipate that students would equally be motivated in achieving recognition for academic goals. Mary’s action research project was a TED talk feature, hosted by Rocky View Schools Division.
What Mary finds most appealing about technology in the classroom is that since it changes over time, so does her teaching. No stranger to change, through her 15 years of teaching, Mary has completed two teacher exchanges in Australia and will be starting her Master’s in Education Technology through the University of British Columbia.
As a Mathletics Lead Educator, Mary’s focus is to continue to excite her colleagues with the latest and greatest from Mathletics through Lunch and Learns.
