Meet some Canadian Mathletics Lead Educators…
The Mathletics Lead Educator program is an initiative to recognise and support K-12 educators who are innovative leaders, integrating Mathletics technologies in the classroom. Our Lead Educators are ambassadors to their community, inspiring teachers with their passion for teaching with technology.
Sarah Thompson – Chief Poundmaker School, Saskatchewan
Sarah Thompson is passionate about engaging students through technology such as the use of computer programs, iPad apps and participating in global projects through the internet. In her current role as a math catalyst she works with Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 9 teachers through coaching cucles and as a resource. As a levelled literacy intervention (LLI) catalyst, her focus is small-group instruction with students in Grades 1-6. As a Mathletics Lead Educator, Sarah’s focus will be on supporting teachers to use Mathletics effectively in her school and in her district.
Evelyn Lopina is making the math headlines in Treaty 6, Saskatchewan, Canada. Evelyn was the first Filipino teacher certified in Saskatchewan, without having to complete additional certification courses. With her Master’s in Education and 6+ years classroom experience, Evelyn has embraced the opportunity develop her teaching skill set.
Jay Mackenzie – District Numeracy Support Teacher, Thompson, Manitoba
It all started in New Zealand, ten years ago, where Jay first experienced the power of Mathletics. While in its early years, Jay introduced his high school math department to Mathletics. From in-school competitions to sharing his learnings with the teaching staff and community, Jay was a natural born Mathletics Lead Educator. 10 years later and an international move back to Canada, Jay once again finds himself leading the Mathletics charge…
